What a puppy can chew
The dachshund has a decided mouth and a nose that finds everything. You give it something allowed, or you find the skirting board.
A puppy that chews is not “bad”. It is exploring, changing teeth, settling itself. The dachshund, on top of that, is stubborn: if it likes a corner of the rug, it comes back. The answer is not to shout afterwards. It is to leave two or three allowed things on the floor, and to take the rest off its level — which is low, so it sees everything you forget.
- Yes
- A solid rubber toy, a cloth of its own, whatever we packed for you.
- No
- Cooked bones, horns that are too hard, cables, socks, the remote.
- Care
- Anything that splinters goes. Better dull and whole than “natural” and dangerous.
- Timing
- After play and before sleep it chews more. That is the moment to offer, not to be surprised.
