Leeds spreads over hilly ground in West Yorkshire, and many of its terraced streets climb steeply away from the River Aire. Roundhay Park’s lakes, woodland and broad lawns suit a curious dachshund, while the canal towpath offers a level alternative when the hills feel like too much. Carry a young puppy up the steeper flights of steps, and keep a coat handy for the cold, damp days that are common on this side of the Pennines.

Questions
How do I manage the hills in Leeds with a dachshund puppy?
Keep early walks short and choose flatter routes, such as the towpath along the Aire, while the puppy’s back and joints are developing. Carry it on long flights of steps. Gentle gradients are fine for an adult dog and help build muscle.
