Care

Rain, mud, and the dachshund that will not go out

Not drawing-room fuss. The chest is low and the nose is on the ground: a puddle is work for this dog, not a stroll.

Many dachshunds hate rain. Others throw themselves into it. Both are normal. What is not normal is skipping walks for a week of bad weather: the bladder and the head do not wait for sun. You go out anyway. You go short, you come back, you dry. The argument ends with the dog, not with the forecast.

  1. 01

A coat if it is proper rain

Not for fashion. The chest scrapes and a smooth coat is wet in a minute. Off indoors, belly dried.

  2. 02

A towel at the door, always the same one

Paws, belly, ears. The ritual tells the dog the outing is over, not that the world has ended.

  3. 03

Mud is not argued in the sitting room

You clean on the landing or in the bathroom. A dachshund that learns “inside is allowed” will bring the field into the kitchen for years.

A bad day is not a day without a dog. It is a day you go out for ten minutes and come home clean.
